If I’m posting less than weekly at the moment, it’s because among other work I’m writing a monograph that turned out more tricky than I envisioned. I’m finally pushing it over the hill but it’s been taking up all my mindspace, and my deadline is looming on the horizon. So today I have another visual feast for you, a follow-up on the last post examining the Baybars Qur’an.
Below are all the distinct designs I found in the roughly 150 pages of Volume One alone. I had intended to collect all volumes in one post, but there were over 60 images for this one alone, I’m going to have to spread them out! I hope these are a source of delight and inspiration.
A few posts back you mentioned an illustrated book, with plant and animal species, a sort of encyclopedia. Was it in That which must not be named? (The Starbucks logo was inspired by one of the square drawings?) I have tried to find back the title and couldn’t.
I am doing research on a novel about a ‘picture book’ and would love to include this. Can you point me in the right direction?
